5F1 Tweed Champ Build
This amp was brought to life on Christmas day, 2003. It's a ground-up build, based on a 1959 5F1 Tweed Champ circuit. This is where the similiarities end though...this one has a 10" Weber speaker, a real quilted maple faceplate, Mercury Magnetics transformers, and certain voicing modifications which have significantly increased the gain of the preamp. It breaks up and distorts easily at levels of 45% and up, has lots of 'chime', and a quite pleasant organic tone. It is VERY touch sensitive, and responds well to subtle changes in approach and technique. It also cleans up nicely with lower volume settings, and retains the original clarity and chime even when backing down on the guitar's volume control. It especially loves being driven with single coil pickups.
